Fondé en novembre 1913, ce fut le 24 mars 1914 que le Bonnet rouge, journal républicain et anarchiste, devint quotidien, d'hebdomadaire qu'il se présentait précédemment.Ce périodique de gauche, dont le rédacteur en chef était l'internationaliste Miguel Almereyda (Eugène Vigo, 1883-1917), fut impliqué dans divers scandales lors de la Première Guerre mondiale, étant accusé notamment de défaitisme.
