A semi-biographical conversation between two leading satirists of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century England, Jonathan Swift (1667-1745) and John Gay (1685-1732). Swift and Gay talk about another leading satirist, William Congreve (1670-1729), who is known for his clever writing and dialogues that satirized social norms. The conversation follows the comedy of manners style, which Congreve, Swift, and Gay were known for. William Congreve: A Conversation Between Swift and Gay was written by Bonamy Dobree (1891-1974), a British professor who taught English Literature at the University of Leeds from 1936-1955.
