Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Brightly illustrated original 1954 popular sheet music for the novelty calypso-inspired song 'Somebody Bad Stole De Wedding Bell (Who's Got De Ding Dong?)', with lyrics by celebrated songwriter Bob Hilliard and music by Dave Mann. The cover features a striking orange-and-black photo…graphic portrait of vocalist Georgia Gibbs, whose recording helped popularize the song, together with references to Jules Podell's famed Copacabana Revue, linking the publication to one of New York City's most celebrated postwar nightclubs. The rear cover advertises contemporary Edwin H. Morris 'Hit Parade Folios,' including publications featuring Bing Crosby, Liberace, Abe Lyman, and The Chordettes, providing an appealing snapshot of the American popular music market during the mid-1950s. Condition is Near Fine. Clean, bright covers retain strong color with only light handling wear, a tiny amount of edge rubbing, and mild corner softening. Interior pages are clean and unmarked with no ownership signatures, stamps, writing, or tears observed. The music remains complete and fully legible. A handsome collectible example of a scarce novelty song from the early rock-and-roll era. Although remembered today primarily as a novelty number, this publication captures several important strands of American popular entertainment in the early 1950s: the lingering calypso craze that preceded Harry Belafonte's mainstream breakthrough, the influence of New York's Copacabana nightclub as a launchpad for performers, and the careers of two accomplished professional songwriters whose work shaped mid-century popular music. The colorful Georgia Gibbs cover gives the piece additional display appeal for collectors of vocalists, nightclub history, and vintage graphic design. Bob Hilliard (1918-1971) was one of the most successful American lyricists of the mid-twentieth century. His songs include enduring standards such as 'Our Day Will Come,' 'In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning, 'Any Day Now,' and numerous film and television compositions. His work was recorded by Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Perry Como, Elvis Presley, Nancy Wilson, and many others. Dave Mann (1916-1998) was an American composer, arranger, and bandleader whose music became widely known through recordings by leading popular singers. Beyond novelty songs, he composed the jazz standard 'No Moon at All' and collaborated extensively with major publishers and recording artists during the 1940s and 1950s. Georgia Gibbs (1919-2006) was one of America's most successful pop vocalists of the 1950s. Known for her versatility across jazz, pop, Latin, and novelty material, she scored numerous chart hits including 'Dance With Me Henry,' 'Kiss of Fire,' and 'Tweedlee Dee.' Her recordings helped define the popular vocal sound of the decade.
