Jacket has minor patchy edge/shelf wear, few marks, mild foxing, patchy browning (including to spine), minor pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine, minor pushing to corners and is in only good condition. Boards are near fine (having been well protected by the jacket) with a hint of pushing to corners and very minor pushing to head/tail of spine. Pages are clean and the binding is tight. Top of pages dyed orange. Odd small mark/spot of foxing to page edges. Pages slightly tanned. Very occasional small mark to pages. No other faults. A nice copy. First edition. viii,179,[3]pp. Etched frontispiece of the author by John Flaxman. §One of 500 numbered copies printed by The Chiswick Press on Kentish all-rag paper. With ink presentation inscription to front free endpaper, dated October 1939, from Edmund Blunden to D.L. Murray (assistant editor of the Times Literary Supplement, to which Blunden was a regular contributor) together with a short quotation from Collins. Blunden has also added an explanatory ink note on the frontispiece to p.vi. Slightly later rectangular private ownership stamp to fly-leaf. Original blue paper boards with printed paper label to spine, top edge rough, others untrimmed. Spine and edge of boards sunned to a lighter shade, paper label slightly discoloured (but original spare tipped-in). A generally very good copy. Inscribed by the Editor.…
