He often returned to these subjects throughout his career, using thickly applied paint in rich colors as he aspired to present both the physical and the spiritual on canvas. His work was influenced by his Jewis…h heritage and Eastern religions as well as by artists including Altdorfer, Gr newald, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Blake, Bresdin, Ensor and Soutine. He first came to prominence when his work was included in the 1942 Museum of Modern Art exhibition "Americans 1942 -- 18 Artists from 9 States". MoMA purchased 2 paintings from the exhibition and Time magazine singled him out as a "striking discovery" in their exhibition review.

Identified on a 1974 Exhibition label of the Currier Gallery, Manchester, NH. The label identifies the sitter as "Ted Ford," but the drawing is another version of the charcoal drawing in t…he Boston MFA, also from1931, which identifies him as Edward Tedford. It is also possible, even likely, that he was Edward (Ted) Ford. In excellent condition. In 1931 Bloom was still a student, studying with Harold Zimmerman and Denman Ross in Boston.
