Very attractive specimen book from Seattle book artist, Mare Blocker who founded the M. Kimberly press in 1984. This is the "first, last, and only type specimen book" printed by the press to commemorate its fourth anniversary. . 9x5" [15]ff, printed in two colors, rectos only on Ragston paper. Stitched in plain wraps with pink Astrolux cover. Near fine copy with very light wear at spine ends First edition, number 23 of 88 signed copies.

This book was modeled after the popular Victorian parlor game, the Exquisite Corpse. It was played by a number of people, each drawing one segment of a "corpse" on an accordion-folded piece of paper. Each segment was drawn without seeing the rest of the corpse. That was how Separated at Birth was written and illustrated. One of the authors wrote a paragraph and sent a sentence to the other, which then became the first sentence of their paragraph Octavo. Unpaginated. Ten woodcuts in blue, black, and red by the authors. Printed on Rives Heavyweight in Times New Roman and Futura types. Taupe cloth with red lettering on the front cover in an accordion-style binding. Lower back cover slightly bumped and slight staining on the lower front cover. A near fine copy. Of 35 copies, this is number 28, signed in ink by the authors on the colophon. Mare Blocker founded the M Kimberly Press is 1984 and specializes in printmaking, book arts, and drawing. She worked as the Visiting Instructor of Art at Whitman College and a Workshop Instructor in bookbinding at the Missoula Art Museum.

Bound in cloth with tiger skin print with a sparkly metallic blue question mark stamped on front board. Covers slightly faded, otherwise clean. With Blocker's exquisite lino- and litho-cuts, one folding out to four panels. Other cuts are cut-outs, some with hand-colored textured paint, appliques of arrows, admission tickets, etc., all evoking the exoticism of the circus. A brilliant book-arts production.

The book was published in an edition of just 125 copies in conjunction with the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The late Katherine Dunn is best known for her circus novel, Geek Love. "This limited edition artist's book was inspired by circus route books, popular in America at the turn of the century. The book chronicles the exploits of an imaginary circus during its spring/summer season. Letterpress printed, illustrated and bound by Mare Blocker, text by Mare Blocker and Katherine Dunn. Illustrations are color linoleum and magnesium cuts representing circus performers, one fold-out color lithograph of performing lions and tigers, and two die-cut pages in the shape of animal heads. Book is numbered on the last three digits of the pink ticket on the colophon page. This book was .selected by the NMWA Library Fellows as a winner for the 1991 Artists' Book competition." [56] pages, with a large fold-out plate. A fine copy. This is no. 061 of 125, signed by author and artist below their portraits at the front of the book. A really lovely book.

Center for Book Arts (illustrator). 11" x 11" Round shaped, case bound concertina, with printed navy Iris cloth on both the book covers and lidded clamshell box. n.p. Limited to an edition of 50 signed and numbered copies. Istoriato is an Italian narrative style of pottery decoration which uses the pottery body solely as support for a purely pictorial effect. Originating about 1500 in Faenza, Italy, paintings comparable in seriousness to Italian Renaissance easel paintings were applied to Maiolica ware. The subjects, biblical, historical, and mythological scenes, are executed with a realism (including the use of perspective) quite unlike any previous pottery decoration. Although violating aesthetic rules in their subordination of shape to decoration, such wares remain works of great skill, as well as beauty. During her Sally R. Bishop residency at the Center, Mare Blocker explored how the design of this pottery changed with the invention of the printing press. Multiple color linoeleum blocks and type were printed on Magnani Pescia. Produced at the Center for Book Arts, each boxed set also includes a unique plate decorated in the style of Maiolica pottery. A wonderful collection of material passed between three Pacific Northwest literary arts luminaries.
