This book is noted for being the second publication of The Killers by Ernest Hemingway with a first being Scribner's Magazine March 1927. This anthology highlights top American magazine fiction from 1927, featuring stories recognized for their literary merit. It includes one of Hemingway's most celebrated short stories, "The Killers," which follows two hit men searching for a former boxer, featuring recurring character Nick Adams. The volume contains a mix of realist, urban, war, and regional stories, besides The Killers are The Scarlet Woman by Louis Bromfield and Child of God by Roark Bradford. The volume was selected by the members of the Society of Arts and Sciences and is a crucial, early anthology representing 1920s American literature, often categorized within the O.
