Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. In excellent condition, the only real defects a very small bump to the front bottom lower edge and a tiny spot of rubbing - about a millimetre square - near the bottom of the spine. An interesting look at Donald Hamilton Fraser's long career, including an introductory essay and commentary upon many paintings, a long interview with the artist, a chronology of his life and career, lists of publications and works in public collections, and a bibliography. There are also contributions by Sir Peter Blake, Brendan Neiland and Annela Twitchin. Blake recalls how they were both tutors at the Royal College of Art. Among Fraser's pupils were David Hockney and Ron Kitaj. Fraser notes wryly that he has "always learnt by teaching". His own big break came when he was selected for a scholarship in Paris by Anthony Blunt and John Piper and had a successful show at Gimpel's. "I remember," he says, "feeling as though I was about a foot off the ground. It had clicked. It had worked.".

Condition: Gut. 185 pages : color illustrations, color maps, color portraits, Fotos, Zustand: geringe Gebrauchs- u. Lagerspuren, private Widmung im Vorsatz, sonst sehr gutes Exemplar. Text, Sprache: Englisch, Skipper's account of Lion New Zealand's participation in the 1985-6 Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race. Col. map on lining papers. PETER BLAKE has become a legend in New Zealand sporting history. He is one of only two yachtsmen in the world to have sailed in all four Whitbread Round the World races. With Ceramco New Zealand, in the 1981-82 Whitbread, he captured the hearts and the imagination of a nation as he and his crew overcame tremendous odds to finish the 27,000-mile classic with distinction. The race was vividly relived in the bestselling BLAKE'S ODYSSEY, one of the finest modern accounts of man against his oldest adversary - the sea. No sooner was that race over than Blake began planning for the next, this time in a new yacht, Lion New Zealand. The sea and the elements hadn't changed, but the race had: this time the focus was on big boats designed and built specifically for the race. It was the first time such boats had been campaigned in number for the honour of being fastest around the world. With big gear, clouds of sail and high loads and stresses, these maxi-yachts required the utmost skill from their crews. The 1985-86 Whitbread was characterised by hightech yachts manned by sailors who smashed all the records as they pushed themselves and their craft to the limits in the greatest yacht race ever. LION is the story of that epic adventure, from the early planning stages and the building of the yacht to the dramatic finish in Portsmouth. It is a superbly written account of one of the most exciting challenges of our time and a tribute to the courage and dedication of ocean-racing yachtsmen. Brossura. Condition: come nuovo. Dust Jacket Condition: ottimo. prima edizione. Offering unique insight into the world of contemporary art, this book looks at four generations of artists, from the established to the newly emerged. Photographs of each of the artists, taken by Amanda Eliasch during 2002 in the artists' studios, are set alongside examples of their work. The text by Gemma de Cruz provides a brief overview of who the artists are, what they do and how their work and ideas fit into the art world at this time. This book draws attention to a particular selection of artists who together form a strong idea of what is happening now in contemporary art in London, featuring artists who are influential alongside those they have influenced. I suppose I became interested in art about ten years ago when I met Charles Saatchi at the Amanpuri Hotel in Thailand. I was sitting by the swimming pool and he was sitting with the film director David Puttnam. He asked me where I lived and I told him in Chester Square. "Well, introduce me to your husband because we need clever young people like him." So we became friends, but not within the art world. Johan was his "cleaner," as he called him, he'd clean up his mess and he cleaned up the Saatchi deal between the old and new companies. I really appreciated Charles's help recently as he assisted me with my photographic shows of nudes. The last one he came to he said, "Oh, definitely, definitely commercial, stick to 1930s Paris." I had been working with Martin Maloney and doing some colour photographs, and Martin said, "Keep on with them." Charles said, "If you keep on with them you'd better go into magazines." So I went to New York and took my book round and I got a call back from Visionaire. I then telephoned Katy Barker who was the only photographic agent I knew and asked her advice. She told me that I couldn't show nudes and that I should do some fashion photographs. So I was introduced to a girl named Rushka Bergman who helped me take the correct photographs for my book. I showed them to the photographer Michel Comte, who took me to Italian Vogue. I then did one or two jobs for Franca, including the Kartell Catalogue, which many photographers did. It showed artists in their chairs. She liked the pictures and suggested I do a book on artists in their studios. I asked for a writer, and Martin suggested Gemma de Cruz, and we drew up a list together. The list in the book is quite varied: It is Young British Artists and a few of the Establishment who actually made the young artists or helped to make them. I liked the older guys because I think as a cu.

Manuscript / Paper Collectible First Edition Signed
Paper. Condition: Good. First Edition. An Original Typed and Signed Letter/Envelope from Beatles Pop Artist Sir Peter Blake to Artist Anthony Rossiter. A reply from Peter Blake and the original carbon copy of Rossiter's reply. Written 1975. From a large collection of the artists letters. Anthony Rossiter RWA MSIAD was a British landscape painter who was educated at Eton and studied painting at Chelsea Art School from 1947-51. He was a romantic visionary, a "poet" whose heaven was the Mendip Hills in Somerset. Gnarled hedgerows, tumbling stone walls, broken gates, reflections in water and ploughed fields were all his subject matter. His works also included portraits, most notably that of W.H. Auden. Anthony Rossiter began his correspondence with Huxley and Osmond while writing his autobiography, The Pendulum (Gollancz, 1966). From the ecstasy of the creative high to the agonising despair of depression, The Pendulum was the creative artist's riposte to the cult success of Doors of Perception (Chatto & Windus, 1954). Where Huxley induced heightened perception by carefully controlled experiments with mescaline, Rossiter's swings came naturally and without warning. Sir Peter Thomas Blake b1932 is an English pop artist. He co-created the sleeve design for the Beatles' 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. His other works include the covers for two of The Who's albums, the cover of the Band Aid single "Do They Know It's Christmas?", and the Live Aid concert poster. Blake also designed the 2012 Brit Award statuette. Blake is a prominent figure in the pop art movement. Central to his paintings are his interest in images from popular culture which have infused his collages. In 2002 he was knighted at Buckingham Palace for his services to art. All in good condition with light creasing. Ref18838. Signed by Author(s).

This Deluxe edition of That Lucky Old Sun is in perfect condition, coming directly from the publisher themselves. Limited to just 1,000 copies worldwide, each is signed by the late Brian Wilson and Sir Peter Blake. The numbered book, hand-signed by Brian and Peter, includes illustrated new interviews with Brian and an essay by noted author Harvey Kubernik. Brian speaks at length about his life and work today, reflecting on his compositions and inspirations. The 12 new artworks are published as individual plates with a preface by Peter, who describes the work in his own words; each is sized at 41.5cm x 31.7cm (16" x 12.5") and suitable for framing. The collection is safely preserved within a hand-crafted box, made in Italy and bound in two cloths - colours of which represent the hues of the Californian sky. The box is decoratively blocked in silver and gold foils with a portrait of Brian inset on the inside cover. The edition would not be complete without one of the first CD pressings of the album, a copy of which is included in every boxed set. Also included is an original laminate VIP pass, saved from the first live performances of That Lucky Old Sun. It is attached by a ribbon, as a bookmark. In design and finish That Lucky Old Sun is personally overseen and, as such, reflects the same spirit of invention for which Peter Blake and Brian Wilson are renowned.

1st edition. Hardcover. Mint in mint dustjacket, featuring artwork pattern by Peter Blake. Sir Peter Blake, one of the most eminent of modern British artists and often described as the father of Pop Art, has designed posters, labels, postcards, covers, calendars, book jackets and record sleeves, the most famous of which are his iconic cover for the Beatles' Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album, and his cover for Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas? The two editors of this book, in the publisher's Design series, have assembled over 150 examples in colour of both Blake's fine art and his commercial art, and in their accompanying text they show how, at various stages of his career, Blake has embraced different art forms and processes, such as collages and ink-jet printing. The book is boldly signed by Sir Peter and the two editors, unique thus, with a wide variety of the artist's designs on show.
