The poetica…l works of James Beattie [1735 - 1803], a professor of Moral Philosophy who also wrote poems containing much beautiful descriptive writing. His most famous, the Minstrel, won him the favour of Johnson. Robert Blair, [1699 - 1746], Scottish poet wrote a single poem, The Grave, in blank verse. William Blake was inspired to produce 12 works to illustrate the poem. William Falconer [1732 - 1769], sailor & poet. His experience as a sailor helped him produce his most famous work 'The Shipwreck'. ironicaaly Flaconer was to die abourd the Aurora, which was lost with all hands of the Cape of Good Hope in 1769. 700 grams.

Light toning/foxing to endpapers. Interior pages are clean. Binding is firm. A very good+ copy in a good+ dust jacket with the editor's five-line ink inscription upon the front free endpaper: "For | Emmet Kilpatrick, Esq., | in token of friendship, | Hunter D. Farish | May 11, 1940." The inscribee, whose first name was misspelled by Dr. Farish, was fellow Alabama scholar and Troy State College (now Troy University) professor Emmett Kilpatrick (1890-1968) as the book was part of a large collection indirectly acquired from his estate.
