Contact seller5-star sellerA photo of Southern University New Orleans students milling around the American flag on campus, with a small unidentified flag apparently affixed to the campus building in the background. The caption claims that the students are "removing" the US flag and raising a "black liberation flag," though no one appears to be touching the US flag's halyard. Newspaper reporting states that students had removed and replaced the flag a week prior; their flag had flown for less than ten minutes before police charged the group, replaced the flag, and maced the students, arresting 27 of them.[1] The students were demanding the institution of Black liberation and Black studies programs, and the removal of Dean of Students Emmett Bashful. Contact seller5-star sellerUnbound. Condition: Good. no date, perhaps mid 1990s. Single sheet, white paper stock. Legal sized paper, 14 by 8 ½ inches. Printed on both sides. Several black and white photos of leaders present. An informational flyer announcing a public meeting to be held at the Africa Room of the International House in Philadelphia. The flyer discusses alleged criminal acts and behavior by two people who were part of the African People's Socialist Party's Philadelphia organization, Mshindi Shabazz (Victor McDavis) and Kentake Nzapa (Bonita Worley). The flyer alleges that Shabazz created an illegal center of power that rivaled the Central Committee of the African People's Socialist Party, stole items from the Philadelphia organization, threatened violence and made slanderous accusations. The meeting was initiated so that the African People's Socialist Party could explain to the community what was going on within the party. Participants included Omali Yeshitela, Ousainou Mbenga, Kinara Zima, Akua Njeri, Penny Hess and Kamau Becktemba. The African People's Socialist Party is a US based organization that formed in 1972 from the merger of three smaller Black Power organizations. While initially focused on Black Power, the African People's Socialist Party's ideology has moved more toward the goals of Pan-Africanism. It has been ongoing in its efforts to gain reparations for slavery for Black people in the US. GOOD+ condition. Some curling at the corners. Minor wrinkling and toning.…

Contact seller5-star sellerOriginal offset lithograph, 17" x 11", printed in reddish-brown ink on off-white, uncoated poster stock. Photographic portrait vignette at center of sheet within a thick plain border; one line of text at bottom margin below border. Slight soil and creasing to extremities, and a single short, closed tear at lower right; Very Good (B/B+). A rather humble memorial poster, issued without any date or identifying information, for Soledad Brother and Black Power icon George Jackson. Jackson, an inmate at Soledad State Prison in California, was killed by prison guards during an escape attempt in 1971, which began when he pulled a 9mm pistol from underneath his wig, pointed it at a prison guard, and declared, "Gentlemen, the dragon has come!" A similar poster was produced by Marcus Books in San Francisco, but we find no references to, or catalogued examples of, the current poster, which came from a Chicago collection and may have been made for neighborhood distribution. The central image is a somewhat unusual portrait of Jackson, showing him in three-quarter profile, in prison uniform, wearing eyeglasses. Of the many dozens of popular images of Jackson, this is the only one in which we've seen him wearing glasses.…
