From the outset, the young artist found himself involved in the most promising movements of his time and, along with Maurice Denis, Bonnard, and Ibels, participated in the founding of the Nabis group. The Nabis' interest in Japonisme and the need to renew the principles of artistic creation resonated deeply with Ranson. With Sérusier and Lacombe, he was particularly interested in occult theories. This catalogue raisonné, comprising nearly 800 illustrationsrepresenting the entirety of Ranson's known work to dateallows us to better understand this complex artist, a painter, engraver, and writer, torn between a passion for decorative art and the most unsettling meditations on the afterlife.
