An autobiographical novel by the German sociologist Paul Massing on his imprisonment by the Nazis in an internment camp in Germany due to his membership in the German Communist Party. Fatherland, which was partly serialized in the New Masses, became one of the first accounts of Nazi repression. Soon after his release, Massing em…igrated to the U.S. with his wife Hede where they both cotinued to operate as Soviet spies. Massing taught at the Institute for Social Research and later Rutgers.
