The book is the result of Glenn Beyer's findings presented to a committee of agricultural experts, including extension agents, home economists, researchers, and more. Two of the committee members, Constance Burgess and Me…rna Monroe, attended a conference on farm housing at Pennsylvania State University in 1950, held in order to discuss the "new" farm housing bill that had been passed by Congress. This book had only recently been published, in light of the need for standard minimum requirements for farm housing in the Northeast. Sections in the book include Introduction and Background; Present Pattern of Farmhouses (floor plans, etc.), Household Activities; Household Inventories; Housing Preferences; a glossary; and 3 appendices. Written at a time when much housing for farm workers was sub-standard but also includes information of interest on the socio-economic and other aspects of farm life in the mid-19th century. Excellent statistics.
