Beutel survived a defamation suit by Malcolm Ross, a former school teacher in Moncton who is described as a holocaust denier. Awarded $7500 from Beutel initially, Ross was later ordered by an appeals court to pay Beutel $5000 in costs, the initial suit having been quashed.
