Hughes was nominated for a Tony award for Best Actress for her role in the 1961 production of "The Devil's Advocate." Jack Lemmon reprised his lead role in a film version in 1980, adapted by playwright Bernard Slade for the screen, directed by Bob Clark, and starring Lee Remick, Colleen Dewhurst, Kim Cattrall, and Robby Benson.
