Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st. Pictorial boards, 109 pages, illustrations (chiefly colour); 29 cm. Catalogue of an exhibition held at the Guild Hall of East Hampton, New York, United States, August 8 to October 12, 2015. Firm binding, clean inside copy. Top right corners bumped. *** "The first exhibition and catalogue focused on Lichtenstein's seascapes, it will feature a recreation of his since destroyed Super Sunset billboard commission. This monumental Pop image has not been seen since its one-time presentation outside Philadelphia in 1967. In 1964, inspired by both art history and by imagery found on printed postcards, Lichtenstein began to explore the genre of seascape, using both paint, plastic, enamel, drawings, collage, print and even film to realize his various works. Guild Hall will host an extraordinary gathering of these work beginning with his Pop-inspired explorations of setting suns along with a recreation of his since destroyed Super Sunset billboard commission (1967). Other works in the show will include his experimental optical collages and films from the mid to late 1960s to his gently calibrated brushstroke water views in paintings and prints of the 1980s culminating with his 1990s water lily series in homage to the Nymph as of Claude Monet. The publication will also include an interview between Avis Berman and Lichtenstein's assistant, James de Pasquale on his recollections of working with the artist in the 1970s on his landscapes in his studio in Southampton, New York. The catalogue will feature a biography and chronology with rarely seen photographs of the artist at work in his various studios." - Publisher. Size: 4to.…

Dust jacket protected in a mylar cover. OVERSIZE! Additional shipping charges may be requested for international & priority orders. Richly illustrated with colour plates. *** "Arriving at their mature styles independently of one another, the renowned American expatriate painters James McNeill Whistler and John Singer Sargent and the British artist Philip Wilson Steer are often credited with bringing modern art to London near the end of the 19th century. Inspired by the lively brushwork of painters from Velazquez to Monet, each of these artists developed a distinctive approach to Impressionism, utilizing spontaneously applied strokes of paint and closely modulated colors to caputre the effects of light as it played across the fingure and landscape. This selection of masterworks by the three artists reveals the stylistic links that give evidence of their shared aesthetic lineage. Essays by Tate curator David Fraser Jenkins and art historian Avis Berman provide insight into their lives and works within the cultural milieu of fin-de-siecle London, including the experiences of the young and somewhat eccentric aesthete W. Graham Robertson." - Publisher. Size: Folio. Collectible. …
