Häufig ist eine chirurgische Notfallbehandlung erforderlich, da sie die häufigste Ursache… für eine chirurgisch bedingte Sterblichkeit darstellt. Die korrekte Diagnose bleibt jedoch aufgrund der unterschiedlichen Symptome eine Herausforderung. In dieser Studie wurde der Einfluss von Geschlecht, saisonalen Schwankungen und der immunhistochemischen Expression der Zytokine IL 6 und 8 bei Patienten mit Appendizitis im Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, untersucht. Insgesamt 313 Patienten, bei denen eine Blinddarmentzündung diagnostiziert und eine Blinddarmoperation durchgeführt wurde, wurden von Januar 2015 bis Dezember 2020 in die Studie aufgenommen. Die Ergebnisse deuten darauf hin, dass saisonale Veränderungen das Ergebnis der Blinddarmentzündung beeinflussen, wobei im Sommer ein statistisch signifikanter Anstieg der Fälle im Vergleich zum Winter zu verzeichnen ist. Unter den untersuchten Personen war der Anteil der Frauen mit 56,9 % (n=178) höher als der der Männer mit 43,1 % (n=135). Die Interleukine 6 und 8 waren im Blinddarmgewebe unabhängig von Alter, Geschlecht oder Jahreszeit deutlich ausgeprägt. Die Studie unterstreicht die klinische Bedeutung der Interleukine 6 und 8 bei der Vorhersage oder Diagnose von Appendizitis.
