Ben Kaila is engaged in the task of the outsider, whose speechless journeying as he calls his work, outlines a complete image of the world. The individual photographs become parts of a whole. Ben Kaila became publicly known in Finland through his photographic exhibition Finnish Migrants' (1972). This poignant statement on the lives of Finnish migrant workers in Sweden received the State Prize for Photography. Kaila has worked as a teacher and instructor of photography, as a picture editor and as a freelance photographer. He was one of the founders of the Saftra group of photographers and the alternative Gorilla Photo Agency.
