[From front jacket flap\ In 1995 Steven Hsi, an Albuquerque physician, underwent his first heart surgery. Becoming a patient changed his perspective on medicine. He and his friend Jim Belshaw, a patient who was also a writer, planned to write a book about his experiences, but Hsi died before the book could be completed. Belshaw and Hsi's widow have edited the doctor's journals into a book that offers a personal view of illness.
