paperback. Condition: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

Condition: FINE. First printing. Attractive new edition of a book set in the 1920's and originally published in 1930 - a classic tale of "man and the sea" - a mixture of adventure story set in Egypt and Somalia and other places in the Arab world, and of mysticism and self-discovery and closeness with nature. Includes a new afterword by the author in which he discusses the good that hashish and opiates can do when used in their natural state versus the use of them as an escape from reality. Translated from the French by Helen Buchanan Bell (the afterword was translated by Helen Weaver.) 287 pp. Dust jacket art by Ted Bernstein. Fine in very good dust jacket (small chips at top of spine, and at folds).

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition thus (1973), First Printing (stated) of this imprint with 1935 translation by Helen Buchanan Bell. Scarce in hardback. Fine contents and binding. The dust jacket has light edge wear and smudging, otherwise near fine.
Glasgow, The Saint Mungo Press, [1897?]. Two-color cloth blocked in red and dark green. (8), 48 p. With 36 photographic pictures of an actor reciting. 1st edition. With penciled notes on most pages, evidently by an eager student. The sewing (of the book) is a bit loose. The pictures show a gentleman with a white bow tie adopting various theatrical poses to emphasize the recitation - at the end of the book are explanations about the place of emphasised words, how to gesture and which tone to adopt. A slightly ludicrous book if you ask me.
