Contact seller4-star sellerPaperback. Book I: White wraps with grey illus. and black lettering; [32] pp. with bw illus. throughout.; Book II: Pamhlet listing 40 works from the exhibition of the same name. [6] pages. The larger booklet is the Summer 1959 edition of the journal of The Museum of Primitive Art, giving an in-depth look at the works on view in…the exhibition held May to September of that year, for which the second, smaller booklet is the catalogue, listing each work with a brief annotation. Introductory essay in the larger book is by Gordon F. Ekholm; identifications of the stones for the catalogue were made by Charles H. Behre. Nice to have these two volumes together for the complete idea of what the exhibition entailed. Includes OCLC numbers 928271429, 965763206. Both clean and tight inside, but the larger volume has some cover soiling and a bit of general shelf wear. No tears or chips.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - 'Slate in Northampton County Pennsylvania' offers a definitive examination of the geological characteristics and industrial significance of slate production in Eastern Pennsylvania. This detailed study focuses on the Martinsburg formation, providing a thorough analysis of the lithology, str…uctural geology, and mineralogy of the region's vast slate deposits. Charles H. Behre delivers a systematic evaluation of the Lehigh and Delaware River valley belts, detailing the physical properties, chemical composition, and cleavage patterns that define high-quality slate. The work goes beyond pure geology to document the practical aspects of the industry, including quarrying operations, processing methods, and the diverse applications of the extracted stone in architecture and education. From roofing tiles to structural slabs, the text provides a snapshot of the economic landscape of Northampton County during the early 20th century. Enriched with technical data and regional insights, 'Slate in Northampton County Pennsylvania' remains a foundational text for earth scientists, industrial historians, and researchers interested in the history of American mining and natural resources. It stands as a testament to the scientific rigor applied to the development of the United States' mineral wealth. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
