Beauclair (1907-1992) war ab 1928 Hersteller und künstlerischer Leiter des Insel-Verlages unter Anton Kippenberg, wo er bis 1945 die Insel-Büchere…i betreute. 1946 ging er nach Westdeutschland und arbeitete zuerst beim Scherpe-Verlag in Krefeld, bevor er 1951 die Leitung der Schriftgießerei Stempel übernahm und innerhalb dieser die Trajanus-Presse gründete. Kurz darauf war er im selben Jahr wieder künstlerischer Leiter des Insel-Verlages, später bis 1962 Verlagsleiter. 1962 verließ er den Insel-Verlag und gründete seinen Ars librorum Verlag, später die Edition de Beauclair. Von 1951-1977 erschienenen viele großartige, von ihm gestaltete Pressendrucke. Er gilt als einer der bedeutensten Buchgestalter seiner Zeit und als "unerreichte(r) Generalintendant des vollkommenen Buches" (Georg Ramseger in einer Rezension des Bandes "Gotthard de Beauclair. Leben und Werk"). Seit 1972 lebte er in Südfrankreich, wo er sich verstärkt seinem eigenen lyrischen Werk zuwandte. Sprache: de.
