Add to basketLeather. Condition: Very Good. A fascinating glimpse into the world of Victorian booksellers in twelve 1894 periodicals, bound in half calf. In a half calf binding. A collection of twelve of the monthly periodicals from Brown's Book-Stall, edited by the publisher A. Brown & Co., covering the year 1894. The Christmas edition peri…odical for 1894 was the last one they ever published. Frontispiece depicting a the art saloon of Brown's bookshop. 1 plate depicting Dunnottar Castle by J. Beattie-Scott, supplement to "Brown's Bookstall," Xmas, 1894. Two photographs of the bookshop frontage in 1785 and 1894 accompanying the text. These periodicals contain articles about the history of book-buying and booksellers; advertisements for the various magazines they sell each month in the bookshop, and for Brown's fine art exhibition in their art saloon; descriptive portraits and obituaries of advertisers and contributors; amusing anecdotes concerning the men of Aberdeen; poetry; and book recommendations. They also contain some very charming Victorian advertisements for other companies.
