Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Hardback. 8vo. 2 vols. pp 368, 364.Original publisher's brown cloth, gilt lettering and decoration to spines. Minor rubbing to extremities in places. VG+ With ownership signature of Edwin Jenner on half title, and his stamp, "Edwin Jenner, Professor of Music" on half title and verso of frontispiece (Vol. 1) and his signature and stamp on half title and stamp on title page (Vol. 2). (Thomas) Willert Beale (1828-94) was a composer and music impresario, and organised performances of opera in the provinces. This autobiography has valuable historical information about English musical life, particularly on Italian opera singers, from 1840 to 1890.Beale often wrote under the pseudonym of Walter Maynard, and supported himself by organising performances of opera in the provinces.
