Die größten Erfolge in ihrer Karriere waren de…r Gewinn der French Open 2019, der Wimbledon Championships 2021 und der Australian Open 2022. Am 24. Juni 2019 wurde sie erstmals die Nr. 1 der Weltrangliste. Bis zu ihrem Rücktritt im März 2022 führte Barty mit einer Unterbrechung von lediglich vier Wochen die Weltrangliste an. Barty gehört ethnisch durch ihre Urgroßmutter väterlicherseits zu den Ngarigo-Aborigines. Sie wurde von Tennisverband Tennis Australia zum National Indigenous Tennis Ambassador ernannt.[1][2] Sie begann im Jugendalter mit dem Tennissport. Bei ihrem erst zweiten ITF-Turnier in Mount Gambier im Oktober 2010 gelang Barty der Einzug ins Halbfinale. 2011 gewann sie den Juniorinnen-Wettbewerb in Wimbledon. Im selben Jahr erreichte sie bei den US Open das Halbfinale der Juniorinnen. Im Dezember erspielte sie sich eine Wildcard für die folgenden Australian Open. Anfang 2012 scheiterte Barty beim WTA-Turnier in Brisbane in der Qualifikation klar mit 1:6, 2:6 an Vania King. Auch in Hobart schied sie in der Qualifikation aus - 2:6, 2:6 gegen Bethanie Mattek-Sands. Bei den Australian Open verlor sie ihr Auftaktmatch gegen Anna Tatischwili. Im Februar und März gewann sie zwei ITF-Turniere in Serie, zunächst in Sydney, anschließend ohne Satzverlust in Mildura. Mitte März stand sie im Endspiel des Sandplatzturniers von Ipswich. Bei den French Open verlor sie, ausgestattet mit einer Wildcard, in Runde eins gegen die an Nummer vier gesetzte spätere Halbfinalistin Petra Kvitová. Beim WTA-Turnier in Brisbane stieß sie 2012 an der Seite ihrer Landsfrau Casey Dellacqua bis ins Halbfinale vor. Bei den Australian Open standen die beiden 2013 dann erstmals im Endspiel eines Grand-Slam-Turniers, in dem sie sich jedoch der topgesetzten Paarung Sara Errani/Roberta Vinci in drei Sätzen geschlagen geben mussten. Beim Rasenturnier in Birmingham gewannen sie ihren ersten gemeinsamen WTA-Titel, für Barty war es der erste Titel auf der WTA Tour überhaupt. In Wimbledon erreichten Barty und Dellacqua ebenfalls das Finale, sie unterlagen dort nach umkämpftem ersten Satz (Tiebreak) Hsieh Su-wei und Peng Shuai in zwei Sätzen. Nach den US Open im September 2014 nahm sich Ashleigh Barty eine Auszeit,[3] eine weitere folgte im Oktober 2015.[4] Sie ließ damals offen, wie lange die Auszeiten andauern würden. In dieser Zeit widmete sie sich professionell dem Cricket, einem Sport, den sie in ihrer Kindheit nicht ausübte und erst später erlernte.
