Magnificent views of the Eastern United States before industrialization altered the landscape. Bartlett was a skilled landscape artist with a keen eye. He travelled extensively in the U.S. and Canada. Ocassional foxing to the plates and tissue guards, Light wear/rubbing to extremities, faded area to the cloth of volume two, mild outer hinge starting. Very good.

This octavo volume in dust jacket contains the entire libretto of Collisions. Included with this book is a small archive of additional material: a picture postcard from Steinitz with a long message to the original owner of this book; several newspaper articles including a couple obituaries of the author, two copies of a memorial of her by noted Los Angeles bookseller, Jake Zeitlin; an article clipped from a 1985 issue of Time Magazine by Robert Hughes; some correspondence from Steinitz to the book's owner and several other printed items relating to Schwitters and Steinitz's work. The book contains B&W illustrations. Condition: minor wear & age-darkening to the DJ which also has slight nicking to its edges; else a near fine copy in very good DJ. Pages: xxviii, 221. Inscribed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. Illustrated by W. H. Bartlett (illustrator). Presumed First Edition but Undated. NO Date or Edition shown - the consensus seems to be circa 1842 - and as the title page states that "Literary Portion of the Work" is only done by J. Stirling Coyne in this copy, I would assume that this may be a first, and that the copies with the addition of N. P. Willis are later, but I could be wrong. I can find little information on this. In a most attractive, quite sumptuous, full sage green leather, decorated/illustrated on both covers and the spine in gilt. The base colour to the spine has sunned from green to a tan colour, but all the gilt (Irish themed) illustration/titling is clear and bright. The covers' inner and outer edges, all have gilt tooled decoration to the dentelles, and all the page fore-edges are gilt. Some rubbing to the leather, with a little chipping to the bottom of the spine, but overall this is a really Lovely Example of Early/Mid-Victorian Binding - such a shame it is only ONE Volume of TWO. Anyone out there with a similarly bound Volume One ? . NO Inscriptions. Plain lemon endpapers. (6) + 182 pp + 58 full page tissue-guarded steel engravings + a tissue-guarded engraved title page with a large Vignette of Dangan Castle preceding the Printed Title. (All collated and correct as per Illustration list). As usual with this type of book there is some foxing and some marks (light yellow/brown spotting/patching) here and there throughout the book, but it's sporadic, and most of the text is unaffected, it's mainly the edges of the plates. Some plates are more spotted than others and some plates have have hardly any foxing. In the majority though I would say there is far less spotting in this copy than in many other similar books of this type/date I've seen - almost all the pages, and some plates, have almost no spots/marks. Irish views (59) featured in this volume include - Glengariff, Killarney, Cork River, Kilkee, Clifden Connemara, Dublin, Glendalough, The Dargle, Bray, etc, etc. This book is overweight at 1.7 Kilos UN-packaged and MAY require extra postage depending on your location. A handsome copy. See Images. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall.

Hardcover. Condition: Good- to near fine condition. Large Quarto. [6] II, 3-80, [2] 76, [2] 100 [4]pp. 120 plates, incl. two maps and three vignette titles. Original green pebbled morocco with gilt tooling and ruling along edges of covers, gilt lettering, ruling and tooling on spines; raised bands, and protected by modern mylar. Gilt edges. Endpapers yellow. Engraved vignette titles. The author, John Carne, left England in 1821, and spent much time traveling in Israel/Palestine and in Constantinople, Greece, the Levant and Egypt. It is one of the few works of that time to include what is present-day Lebanon. The book, with plates by Bartlett, Purser, and Allom, was published some time after Carne returned to England, initially in thirty parts of four plates each. Many of the plates in volume 3 are after drawings by Thomas Allom, commissioned by the publishers to complete the illustrations. This work contains 2 full page maps and 118 steel-engraved plates depicting views throughout Syria and Asia Minor, all protected by tissue-guards. All volumes with list of engravings at front, volume three with general index at rear. Binding with light rubbing and scuffing along edges, slightly more pronounced at top foredge of front cover of volume three. All three volumes lightly starting at inside covers but firm. Volume one with engraved bookplate on inside front cover, signed Alfred Bilbrough, May, 1908. All three volumes with medium seize O printed to front free endpapers. Volume three with bump at lower spine, lightly at foredge, and some pages and plates with water stains at top margins, not affecting images. Eighty of the engravings are fine with none or very light foxing in margins. Thirty-six engravings with light or minor damp-staining in plates, four engravings with heavy damp-staining in images. Blocks lightly age-toned.
