Orig. published by Scribner's in 1908, then in 1913, this is a 1927 printing of that FIRST EDITION with fresh illustrations by Nancy Barnhart replacing the originals by E. H. Shepard. Compact h…ardcover (8vo, 6.25" x 8.25") has deep blue cloth-covered boards with a black illustration of Mole & black lettering to front & spine. Condition is VG+: quite clean & bright, sewn binding is strong & straight, both hinges secure. Pages creamy white with moderate tanning to edges & the occasional foxed spot; these also appear in the margins of just a few of the 11 plates, 7 of which appear in full color. Pages unmarked save for former owner's name in pencil to half-title page (we never erase the names of these long-ago readers). Mild rubbing to extremities & slight bumping to corners & spine tips, with a few tiny spots of loss/fraying. No DJ.
