Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - 'Leaves From My Life' is the compelling autobiography of Sir Herbert Barker, one of the most significant and influential figures in the history of manipulative surgery. The work serves as both a personal memoir and a passionate defense of manipulative therapy, offering a unique perspective on the evolution of orthopedic practices and the challenges faced by practitioners who operated outside conventional medical circles. Readers will find a narrative filled with conviction, describing the breakthroughs and obstacles encountered by a man who sought to alleviate human suffering through manual skill. This work stands as an important historical document, reflecting the tensions between pioneering therapeutic methods and established professional standards of the time. Paper. Condition: Good. First Edition. Three Original Hand Written and Signed Letters by English Manipulative Surgeon Sir Herbert Atkinson Barker. Dated between 1925-1928. All letters are quite long and discuss his work and articles. All from his home in Italy. Sir Herbert Atkinson Barker 1869-1950 was an English manipulative su…rgeon. He developed a highly successful technique, specialising in knee and other damaged joints both in the top sportsmen and the general public. He advocated the avoidance of surgery. However, his methods were never formally approved by the medical establishment. Because of opposition towards a Lambeth degree or honorary degree for him, he was instead honored with a knighthood in 1922, nominally for services in World War I. In the 1920s he visited Doctor's Cave Beach Club in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and was most impressed by the curative powers of the waters. His subsequent articles about the beach lead to it becoming a popular destination for those seeking cures, and this was the start of the tourist industry in Montego Bay. He wrote Leaves from My Life: Reminiscences by the famous Manipulative Surgeon, published in 1927. Various Sizes. Condition is good. Light folding creases. More images can be taken upon request. Ref18815. Signed by Author(s).
