Ink stamp of "Library of the Biological Laboratories Harvard University" on the front wrapper (the ink impression is poor, so not all these words are visible). The text is loose inside the wrappers. Good. First Edition. INSCRIBED BY JOSEPH BARC…ROFT: "Dr. W. J. Crozier with kind regards/ J. B." Crozier was William John Crozier. A paper by Crozier, "On Biological Oxidations as Function of Temperature", published in the Journal of General Physiology (1924), is cited by Barcroft on p. 86 of the paper offered here. Quoting from an obituary of Crozier by Hudson Hoagland and R. T. Mitchell, Crozier "received his Ph.D. in zoology from Harvard in 1915 . . . he joined the Harvard faculty in 1925 as associate professor and head of the newly formed Department of General Physiology. In 1927 at the early age of thirty-five years he was made full professor at Harvard. His laboratory of general physiology in the late twenties was an exciting place for graduate students. Crozier was a stimulating and provocative teacher who was not only remarkably learned but who gave his students a sense of participation in advancing ideas and of sharing in the adventure of cross-discipline research" (The American Journal of Psychology, Vol. 69, no. 1 (March 1956), pp. 135-138).
