One of the most popular books by this prolific Norwegian novelist, biographer, critic and children's book author, this tells of the adventures of a small boy, naturally friendly and loving, the son of a doctor who "spent most of his time with the cab-driver Ondersen, because his father was too busy treating his patients. When his father is killed in a storm, young Peik is sent to live with his bachelor Uncle Paul in Christiana." Then he is sent to his Aunt Ada in Berlin, but he does not fit in there at all, and wants to return to Ondersen and his other friends. Originally published in Norway in 1911 and translated from the Norwegian by Lorence Munson Woodside, this is quite hard to find in English. The NY Times review when this was first published praised the translation and illustrations and commented that children will be entertained by his pranks and adventures while adult readers will enjoy the picture of a completely natural little boy. Illustrated with 21 full page line drawings by Robert Lawson. 268 pp Near fine in blue cloth with yellow lettering - corners slightly bumped and other minor wear to the covers, but a clean, sturdy and attractive copy.
