The Rittenhouse Journal of the Scientific Enterprise was a scholarly journal focused on increasing and distributing knowledge about scientific instruments made and/or sold in the US and the Americas. Throughout its 23 years of publication (and a total of 70 issues), the journal covered areas including mathematical, optical and philosophical instruments, chemical, physical and electrical apparatus, sundials and globes; and time periods from the 17th to the mid-20th century. Authors of the various articles in the journal are well known scholars from major institutions, collectors, and dealers in the field of scientific instruments.

Baird and article titled "The Great Fire In Chicago, January 28, 1868" -- Page 100 has two large engravings, one titled "An Avalanche In An Alpine Pass", the other by Stanley Fox titled "Relieving The Poor At No. 1 Bond Street, New York" -- Page 104 has a full page engraving by W. S. L. Jewett titled "Broadway, February, 1868" -- Page 105 has a full page engraving by Theodore R. Davis titled "Buffalo Attacked By Wolves" -- Page 108 has two large engravings, one titled "Hunting Quaggas And Zebras In Africa", the other "Indians Fishing For Salmon In Oregon" -- Page 109 has three engravings titled as follows: "Lying In Wait" (a snowball fight), "Burning Of The Academy Of Music, Albany", and "Fenian Attack On The Martello Tower, Duncannon, Ireland, January 17, 1868" -- This issue contains portions of the following serials: "My Neighbor Nelly" by Miss Thackeray, Part I, and "The Moonstone" by Wilkie Collins, Chapters XI & XII -- Many articles related to these engravings and other events occurring at the time, as well as very interesting advertising -- We store and ship each Harper's Weekly issue in a large zip lock plastic sleeve with a board insert for stiffness.
