Add to basketStapled Sheaves; Glued Cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. This is the College of Agriculture's Bulletin 493, a contribution from the Giannini Foundation. "By 1929 in the great deciduous fruit belts of the state [California] calamitously low prices for fruit crops had brought ruin to some, jeopardy to many, and concern to all. Still larger crops were expected in the immediate future. They might sell for still lower prices . The question has therefore risen whether, somewhere within the bounds of the Far East, there are not places and nations which would consume more of our products if these were easily available to them in the form and kind desired." [Introduction] The survey, which attempts to answer that question, covers East Asia (Japan, Korea, China), South Asia (the Philippines, French Indo-China, Siam, British Malaya, the Netherlands East Indies], and West Asia (Burma, India, and Ceylon). 266 pages, with prefatory matter, 112 tables, 20 figures, and halftone illustrations. Covers are rubbed, slightly grimed, and have been mended; text is clean and strong. …

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Collectible-Very Good. First Edition. 118 pages; bound in stiff boards with title on the cover. Series of letters sent back home during a trade mission to the Far East in 1929-30 to see if there is a market for American fruit, fresh, dried or canned. Besides the author, W.J. Norton and Paul J. Windrem were on the commission which produced a book for the University of California as Bulletin 493 of the Agricultural Experiment Station in 1930. The letters give a human side of the travels and what was involved in creating the results of the commission. Crocheron has added some hindsight material in between the letters. Among the countries visited were Japan, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, and Egypt. Makes for a pleasant read. …

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This engaging account analyzes the development of community centers in rural schoolhouses as an educational and social force throughout the early 20th century. It does so through an examination of the various activities and programs these centers facilitated. Illustrative examples are provided to highlight the successes and obstacles encountered. The book demonstrates how agricultural clubs that encouraged activities between schools and farms were an essential element of this movement, and how they influenced the expansion of agricultural knowledge and practice amongst young people in rural communities. Through the lens of several specific cases, the book also reveals how the concept of the community center was adapted and evolved across different communities in alignment with the specific needs of each region. By connecting this history to the broader context of the social reforms and changes in education that were happening across the United States at the time, the book allows for a rich understanding of the origins of rural school community centers in the face of profound societal shifts. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
