Fotografla universite yillarinda baslayan ve giderek derinlesen ilgisi nedeniyle 90'li yillarin basinda Turkiye'ye dondu ve kendi studyosunu acarak reklam fotografciligi yapmaya basladi. 1998'de Turkiye'nin ilk kapsamli dijital fotograf studyosunun kurulusunda fotograf ve reklam yonetmeni olarak gorev aldi. 2009'da bu yana Koc Universitesi, Medya ve Gorsel Sanatlar Bolumu'nde (MAVA) fotograf uzerine dersler vermektedir. 2000 yilindan bu yana fotograf yazilarinda, oznellik kapsaminda "gorme bicimleri" ve "fotograf tarihi" uzerine yogunlasmaktadir. Bu temel yaklasimini "Fotograf Tarihi Kanonunu Yeniden Dusunmek: Oznellik Uzerine Bir Inceleme" baslikli yuksek lisans tezinde ayrintilandirarak gelistirmistir. Yayinlanmis calismalari arasinda fotografik dusunce uzerine yazilarini biraraya getirdigi Kendine Ait Bir Fotograf (2005) ile Palimpsest Istanbul (2010) ve Issiz (2013) fotograf albumleri sayilabilir. Aytek 1991'den bu yana 13 kisisel sergi acti ve 22 grup sergisine katildi.
