Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book studies the transformation of Canadian civil servants from the positions of privilege they held within pre-Confederation colonial society to their present-day status. The author traces the process by which this powerful elite lost its privileged status and were subjected to the same rules and regulations as other citizens, thereby revolutionizing the nature of the entire Canadian civil service system. The book demonstrates the complicated and nuanced history of the Canadian civil service system, one that has historically been shaped by both internal bureaucratic warfare and external political pressures.
