Hardcover. Paper pastedown. Condition: Very Good Minus. First edition. Oblong, 18.5 by 21.5 cm. Hand-colored engraved title, followed by 16 hand-colored plates, one of which is folding. Based on the Reverend James Beresford's "The Miseries of Human Life", published in 1806 by Miller. (The same work inspired publisher Rudolph Ackermann and artist Thomas Rowlandson as well.) Each plate accompanied by a facing letterpress page of description. Abbey 259. WIth original boards and printed label. Dampstain covering much of label and touching on the surrounding board paper pastedown, which has a moderate amount of other soiling too. The dampstain is heavy for small area of label, but none of the type is unreadable. Also a small finger-scrape hole of the label, again not affecting its content materially. A few light stains and finger smudges of the interior leaves, but overall these come off as crisp and clean.
