Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book compiles the address delivered by Brevet-Major R.L Ashhurst, First Adjutant of the 150th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers, at the reunion of the regiment's survivors held at Gettysburg in 1896. Thirty-three years after the battle, the author reflects on the sacrifices and experiences of the regiment during the Civil War. It explores the themes of unity, obedience, valor, and selflessness that emerged from the crucible of war, and how these qualities shaped the character of the soldiers and the nation itself. The author argues that the true reward of the struggle lay not just in the preservation of the Union, but in the development of a generation of Americans who exemplified the highest ideals of patriotism and sacrifice.
