Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Daisy Ashford wrote this enchanting manuscript when she was nine years old! See her face though, as a child in the frontispiece for this edition. (Does she appear mature beyond her 9 years? Her face lacks a bloom one generally sees in a child's face, I think). Her family held onto the story and thirty years later in 1919 encouraged by her friends, one of whom included "Peter Pan" writer J.M. Barrie, she let it be published and it was a smashing success. After that she got married but she was 38, but, now she had a pocket full $$ of pounds. This copy is GOOD- no names or unwanted marks but the frontispiece is loose. There is also a 1/2" chip off the head of the spine panel. Bottom edge of the cover is rubbed, as well. The silhouette decorated dust wrapper is chipped a bit; maybe a Good minus.…
