For the new generation Tulenkantajat modernist movement became a cult, which channeled new artistic trends into Finland - expressionism, futurism, dadaism, surrealism. Also group inspired by oriental themes, jazz, city, industry life and hedonism, introduces new themes into Finnish-language poetry (reverence for life, the brotherhood of mankind), a new world of subject matter (the city, technology, distant lands). Their more literary innovations signified an attempt to shed regular meter (rhythmic structure of a verse). The group published their own magazine. Some of the bestknown members of Tulenkantajat were Olavi Paavolainen, Mika Waltari, Katri Vala, Elina Vaara, Yrjö Jylhä, P. Mustapää, Uuno Kailas, Ilmari Pimiä, Lauri Viljanen.
