First editions o…f this scarce promotional brochure, and original souvenir program for the 1939-1940 productions of Vollmann's sprawling historical pageant, which sprawled over 450 years, featured 28 pageant scenes, 400 foot wide stage, more than 300 actors, and 500 head of livestock. Recreations included the ride of Paul Revere, Washington at Valley Forge, settlers traveling the Oregon Trail, Lincoln's Gettysburg address, and the very popular Wells Fargo stagecoach hold-up. First editions, 2nd signed, of these surprisingly uncommon pair of promotional brochure, and original souvenir program for the 1939 productions of Vollmann's massive "Golden West" cavalcade, on the 400 foot long stage, movable stage sets, "Third dimensional sound" and two real railroad trains on the center stage. Recreations included Cabrillo's "discovery" of California; founding of the first Mission at San Diego by Father Junipero Serra; The Bear Flag Revolt; 1849 Gold Rush; Joaquin Murrieta visits Hangtown; and even Custer's Last Stand. Linkletter (1912-2010), was a Canadian-American who during the 1930's was working as a radio personality and announcer in San Diego, and then San Francisco, and directed programs for Fairs and Expositions across the U.S., best remembered for his People are Funny TV show 1954-1961. No copies located of the promotional brochure.
