She caught fire during a storm in the Bay of Biscay. "Apparently 568 out of 637 people were saved." - Huntress 227C. The original narrative was taken from a published… letter attributed to Sir Duncan McGregor, a major in the regiment aboard the ship. The "Additions" mentioned on the title page constitute a 36-page Appendix which deals with the fate of the 14 men left aboard the burning ship - a graphic account, and not a happy one. The account ends, ".we can only hope that, in such a state of utter despair, the sufferings of those wretched beings were not long protracted."
