I mondi pittorici di Andy Hope 1930 sono poetici, familiari e irritanti allo stesso tempo: la fantascienza fa il paio con la storia dell'arte, gli eroi dei fumetti appaiono fianco a fianco con gli emblemi del Terzo Reich, forme scure e figure chiare condividono la stessa tela. L'artista tedesco disegna scene sensibili e sottili che sono tuttavia cupe. A ben guardare, il suo immaginario colorato e onirico minaccia di rovesciarsi nel suo opposto - un incubo. I suoi soggetti sono costruiti in un complesso e vario sistema di segni che include immagini tradizionali, rimosse dal lessico popolare, poi consapevolmente distorte ed espanse. Per "This Island Earth", Hope ha realizzato un dipinto lungo 36 piedi, che costituisce il punto focale della mostra che sembra uscire direttamente da un film di fantascienza. He draws the universe of the imagination using a vast range of media, and extending the realism of the pictorial from flat images to relief, sculpture, installation and meta-installation. Andy Hope 1930 points to a pivotal year in history when the utopian aspirations of the modern movement gave way to darker forces within Europe, pausing the clock at a time when the destiny of the world hung in balance. The Americanism of the name recalls Andy Warhol, whilst allying this with spiritual optimism. Since 2010 the artist uses this conflicting sign for his own name. Robin Dostoyevsky is the title of the exhibition at the CAC in Málaga and is based on two completely different characters: on the one hand Robin, the inseparable companion of the comics hero Batman and on the other the Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky, the great exponent of existentialism.
