L'artista tedesco disegna scene sensibili e sottili che sono tuttavia cupe. A ben guardare, il suo immaginario colorato e onirico minaccia di rovesciarsi nel suo opposto - un incubo. I suoi soggetti sono costruiti in un complesso e vario sistema di segni che include immagini tradizionali, rimosse dal lessico popolare, poi consapevolmente distorte ed espanse. Per "This Island Earth", Hope ha realizzato un dipinto lungo 36 piedi, che costituisce il punto focale della mostra che sembra uscire direttamente da un film di fantascienza.
