Der Bestand der Staatlichen Graphischen Sammlung München, der bedeutendste außerhalb Österreichs, wurde bislang nicht umfassend präsentiert. Neben außergewöhnlich detaillierten Aquarellen aus al…len Schaffensphasen bietet er zahlreiche Skizzen, die einen unmittelbaren Einblick in die Arbeitsweise des Künstlers ermöglichen. Ein großer Teil dieser Werke stammt aus dem Eigentum der Tochter des Künstlers. Weitere wichtige Aquarelle befanden sich in Wiener Privatbesitz, darunter auch später beschlagnahmte jüdische Sammlungen. Ein von der Arbeitsstelle für Provenienzforschung in Berlin gefördertes Projekt untersuchte die Herkunft der 617 Zeichnungen und Aquarelle, die 1959 »aus ehemaligem NS-Besitz« an die Graphische Sammlung überwiesen worden waren. Der Katalog dokumentiert den Bestand und die Ergebnisse der Provenienzforschung. Katalog zur Ausstellung der Staatlichen Graphischen Sammlung München in der Pinakothek der Moderne vom 23.
