Januar 1962 in Paris) war ein französischer Maler, Bildhauer, Kunsttheoretiker und -lehrer. Sein Werk ist dem Kubismus zuzuordnen. Zu Beginn seiner künstlerischen Laufbahn von Paul Gauguin inspiriert, war André Lhote stark beeindruckt von der im Jahr 1907 organisierten großen Retrospektive der Werke Cézannes, schloss sich daraufhin den Kubisten an und verkehrte insbesondere vorübergehend mit der Künstlergruppe, die sich um Juan Gris gebildet hatte. Von den Kubisten übernahm Lhote einzig die Vereinfachung der Formen und die Auflösung der Motive in überwiegend eckige Flächen. Bei der Wahl der Motive und hinsichtlich des Bildaufbaus behielt er indessen stets die klassische Malerei im Blickfeld und achtete darauf, dass seine Gemälde leserlich" blieben. Das Spätwerk war geprägt von großflächigen Wandmalereien wie beispielsweise jenen in der medizinischen Fakultät von Bordeaux (1957). André Lhote war Autor mehrerer theoretischer Abhandlungen. In diesen sowie in seinen Lehrbüchern und zahlreichen weiteren Schriften setzte er sich intensiv mit der Malerei auseinander. Durch seine Unterrichtstätigkeit und seine Bücher übte er großen Einfluss aus. Zu seinen Schülern zählten unter anderem Else Hertzer, Tamara de Lempicka, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Alf Bayrle, Fred Klein und William Klein, Gerhild Diesner, Oswald Petersen und Wilfried Kirschl.
