Reeling of silk is a delicate art and as such must be handled carefully. The silk filaments being extremely fine we unfortunately cannot reel the strands straight from silkworms as from spiders. Hence the reeling of a single fiber of silk uses upto five or ten cocoons and involves a complicated process by machine in a factory called a filature. The reeled yarn is termed raw silk.
