Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Vintage 1953 1st edition of "It Takes More Than Talent." The book is overall in very good condition with some minor signs of wear and age. It comes in its original dust jacket which is in good- condition with sunning to the front cover & spine, a chip to…the top of the spine, some light staining, and some other minor chips and tears. The jacket comes in a removeable protective mylar wrapper. The actual orange cloth cover of the book has some light wear with a little bit of edge wear to the boards. The interior is lightly toned from age but generally nice and clean with just a few pages with a very minor stain or light bit of foxing. Along with that here may be the very occasional page with some kind of minor imperfection. The book measures approximately 8 5/8 inches by 5 7/8 inches and is 300 pages long. The chapters include: Knowing Something About It; What Makes a Good Screen Story?; How to Sell a Story to the Movies; How to Become a Director; Do You Want to Be a Star?; The Production Office and Big Plan; How to Get a Job as a Studio Secretary; Your Career as a Dress Designer; The Praisery Department; What Does a Producer Do?; Are you the Academic Type?; The Hard-to-Crack Fields; How YOU Can Get There; Television; The Summing Up; and an appendix Your Movie Career at a Glance. Please look at all of the photos to further note the condition.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Very Good dj. First Edition. (price-clipped) [good sound clean copy with only a trace of shelfwear; the jacket is faded and tanned at the spine, with the title (in white lettering) just barely readable thereon, and shows a bit of wear along the hinges and at the spine ends]. Not an autobiography,… although the veteran producer-director does draw on his own experiences (and tells "the intimate stories behind the stars") in the course of informing the reader how movies are made, "from the choice of the story to the last bit of costuming, cutting, or exploitation," and advising them on "how to go about getting a job [in Hollywood] -- how to walk through studio gates, be interviewed by the right person, and go to work . tell[ing] you exactly what job openings there are, what the union situation is, what salary you may expect, what hours you work, and what raises and advancements you may hope for." Introduction by Louis B. Mayer. Illustrated by (dj design) H. Lawrence Hoffman (illustrator).

Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Fine if you discount marks made by the author; a tiny white stain to rear cover near spine; a few dust spots to fore edges of pages; a little soil and a few scuffs to top edge of pages; else As New. In Good dust jacket with some edge wear at top and bottom and… some fading/staining/soil to spine; in a mylar sleeve. Stated First Edition. Signed on first free page: "Mervyn LeRoy My Book April 15th 1980". Contains underlining, seemingly by a felt tip pen also used for the signature, on the DJ and in the book, primarily within the Introduction and DEDICATION, and primarily of LeRoy's name and the names of actors and films. LeRoy died of heart failure complicated by Alzheimer's disease in 1987, and one can speculate that the markings in his 1953 First Edition were made by him during the early stages of Alzheimer's as he reminisced/tried to recall his career. Signed by Author(s). Book.
