Sehr guter Zustand. - Das Kloster Frauenchiemsee (auch Frauenwörth genannt) ist ein Kloster der Benediktinerinnen auf der Insel Frauenchiemsee in Bayern in der Diözese München und Freising. Geschichte [Bearbeiten]Das Kloster wurde 782 durch Herzog Tassilo III. von Bayern gegründet. 788 wurde es karolingisches Reichskloster. König Ludwig der Deutsche, der seit 826 auch Bayern regierte, setzte um 857 seine Tochter Irmengard als Äbtissin ein. Das Kloster erlebte nach den Zerstörungen der Ungarneinfälle zwischen dem 11. und dem 15. Jahrhundert eine Blütezeit. Der Neubau der Klostergebäude erfolgte zwischen 1728 und 1732. Das Kloster wurde im Zuge der Säkularisation offiziell von 1803 bis 1835 aufgehoben, jedoch unter Fortbestand des alten Konvents. Da sich für die Klostergebäude kein Käufer fand, durften die Nonnen bleiben. 1836 wurde das Kloster durch König Ludwig I. von Bayern wiedererrichtet mit der Auflage, dass die Benediktinerinnen sich durch Eröffnung von Schulen ihre Existenzgrundlage selber schaffen. Seit 1837 widmeten sie sich der Mädchenerziehung u.a. im Irmengard-Gymnasium mit Internat (bis 1982) und (ab 1983) in der Irmengard-Berufsfachschule (vormals Vorseminar für soziale Frauenberufe), die sie bis 1995 betrieben. . Sehenswürdigkeiten: Das heutige Kirchengebäude, das auch Inseldom genannt wird, ist romanischen Ursprungs (11. Jahrhundert) und steht auf karolingischen Fundamenten. Die Gewölbe der Kirche stammen aus gotischer, die Altarausstattung aus barocker Zeit. Das Netzrippengewölbe des Innenraums wurde 1468 bis 1476 eingezogen. 1688 bis 1702 wurde die Kirche mit heute noch erhaltenen Altarretabeln ausgestattet. 1954 entdeckte man romanische Fresken an den Sanktuariumshochwänden. Der nordwestlich vor der Kirche frei stehende Glockenturm, ein Wahrzeichen des Chiemgaus, stammt im Ursprung wohl aus dem 12. Jahrhundert. Die erhalten gebliebene karolingische Vorhalle war möglicherweise schon Bestandteil der alten Klosteranlage unter Irmingard. Im Chorraum der Torhalle wurden 1928 romanische Wandmalereien gefunden, die schon im 13. Jahrhundert übermalt worden sind. Fünf teilweise erhaltene Darstellungen von Erzengeln wurden freigelegt.
