This issue features a book review round up by French novelist and playwright Rachilde, scandalous for both the liberating way she lived her life and her erotic, gender-bending novel Monsieur Venus. Rachilde often appeared in the pages of the Mercure de France(she was married to editor Alfred Vallette for a time). Her notoriety lent some popularity to the periodical.
