Jahrhunderts. Der bedeutendste Sammler und Mäzen der russischen Aufklärung, Alexander S. Stroganov, bereiste auf seiner Grand Tour Westeuropa und studierte in Genf und Paris. In den 1770er Jahren kehrte er nach Paris zurück. Dort knüpfte er enge Kontakte zu den Vertretern der europäischen Aufklärung, zu Künstlern und Gelehrten. Erstmals beschreibt der vorliegende Band umfassend Sammlertätigkeit und Mäzenatentum dieses Amateur des arts, verfolgt seine Bauprojekte und untersucht seine für die Entwicklung der russischen Künste wegweisenden Reformen als Präsident der St. Petersburger Akademie der Künste sowie als Leiter der staatlichen Pietre-Dure-Manufakturen.
