Add to baskethardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Publication: London, Editions Poetry London / Nicholson and Watson, 1946 Formatting: 8vo, pp. 188. Condition Report: Very Good. The original cloth-backed binding remains mechanically sound and firm, exhibiting only mild shelf-wear and slight bumping to the extremities. The page blo…ck shows a typical, even degree of age-toning, but the interior pages present cleanly without major foxing or extraneous markings, remaining highly legible and structurally tight throughout. It is housed in a unclipped original dust-wrapper, which shows some light rubbing, slight fading, and minor chipping to the spine ends and corners, alongside a touch of general surface soiling consistent with its age. Despite these minor flaws, it remains a highly presentable and complete example. Catalogue Note: First edition. This volume represents a rather scarce survival on the open market when complete with its original dust-wrapper. Notably, the book was issued by PL (Editions Poetry London), an influential imprint far more commonly associated with the mid-century avant-garde and poetry, founded by Tambimuttu. The lower panel of the dust-wrapper proudly lists the seminal authors and artists they represented, including Dylan Thomas, Henry Miller, and Henry Moore. This creates a fascinating cross-cultural bridge between modern British literature and the post-war jazz movement. The text is additionally supplemented by numerous black-and-white photographic illustrations. A fascinating time-capsule of post-war British jazz appreciation, The PL Yearbook of Jazz 1946 brings together a diverse collection of essays, reviews, and cultural criticism documenting the contemporary music scene. Featuring contributions from a variety of respected critics and musicians, the volume offers a transatlantic perspective on the development of jazz and blues during a transformative era. It stands as a vital and highly collectable resource for understanding the cultural reception and evolution of jazz in 1940s Britain. N/A (illustrator).
