Alberts, geboren am 23.8.1911 in Haarlem, studierte Indologie in Utrecht und promovierte dort mit einer Dissertation über den Einfluß der Verfassungsreform von 1848 auf die Kolonialpolitik. Nach einer Tätigkeit am Pariser Koloni…alministerium trat er eine Verwaltungsstelle in Niederländisch Ost-indien an. Während des Krieges wurde er von den Japanern interniert. 1946 kehrte er endgültig in die Niederlande zurück. Von 1953 bis 1965 war er Redakteur einer Wochenzeitung. Seine Prosa ist geprägt von seinen Erfahrungen in der ehemaligen Kolonie und seiner Tätigkeit als Beamter. Erinnerungen dominieren in seinem Werk, sie werden äußerst knapp und scheinbar kühl, immer aber mit einer sehr persönlichen Färbung dargestellt. Auch als Autor von Biographien und Ar-beiten über französische und niederländische Geschichte hat er sich hervorgetan.

"Der Todeswürfel", "Die schwarzen Brüder", "Die Errettung vom Schaffot"), die wohl den Absatz des im Selbstverlag erschienenen Werkes fördern soll…ten. Im Folgejahr 1846 erschien noch ein zweiter Band (hier nicht vorhanden). Das werk ist recht selten, auch wenn das KVK u.a. von einer 13. bzw. 26. Auflage spricht. Es scheint eher so, dass der Selbstverleger Teile der Auflage mit diesem Vermerk versehen hat, um den Eindruck zu erwecken, dass das Buch sehr begehrt sei. Ein dritter Band ist weltweit nur in der Staatsbibliothek Berlin mermekrt. Der hier vorliegende Band 1 enthält nicht die 5 Kupfertafeln, die üblicherweise beigebunden waren, diese waren hier offenbar nicht eingebunden. Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 300 Schlichter Halbleinenband der Zeit.
